Cherry tomatoes grow very well in the greenhouse up here, and even outside for some varieties. In that regard, there's a lot of crossover, as those tomatoes which are adapted to outdoor growth here are just a little larger than your average cherry tomato.

Summer 2011

This year's discovery was the Gold Nugget from Johnny's Seeds. My neighbor Jen Koontz grew some wonderful yellow cherry tomatoes two years ago, so I decided that I would try it - and it was fabulously successful. Some of the best tasting tomatoes I've ever grown. Even in a poor growing year, these produced really well.

Summer 2010

The big disaster this year was Matt's Wild Cherry from Johnny's Selected Seeds. This plant grew in a huge, unwieldy heap of vines that produced next to no tomatoes at all. It reminded me of kudzu in its growth. Eventually, this vine-filled corner of the greenhouse was torn out and turned into compost.

The Subarctic tomatoes did very well, though, especially inside the greenhouse. Huge production on determinate plants, with tons of little ripe tomatoes.

Previous years

Ben and Jen's garden had an interesting yellow cherry variety which did really well. Our garden had some forgotten varieties from Burpee which also grew well.
