Zucchini is an annual crop in these parts that has done well no matter where its been grown in the garden. We have had them in the raised beds, in the corn house, and down in the large garden, and all of them have produced at least some squash. The plant is tender and needs to be sheltered against early frosts, and it does better where it is covered and gets heat, but we've also gotten zucchini from plants that were just out in the sun along with the broccoli and cabbages. The variety we grow is Black Beauty.

Summer 2011

Despite the fact that the zucchinis were right next to the construction area for the high tunnel, we got some pretty nice zucchini, including one that we wanted to bring to the Ag Fair in August. We didn't win the prize but it was a huge squash.
