Saturday 25 December 2010 Snow peas are one of the best tasting vegetables you can grow up here. They're sugary sweet and crisy. A common experience is heading out to the garden to collect vegetables and finding yourself standing in front of the snow peas, gobbling them up instead of picking them for dinner. Summer 2010 Lots of Oregon Sugar Pod peas this year. We learned from previous years and kept these puppies well-picked, which gave us a ton of new peas throughout July and August. By keeping the plants well-picked, we were also able to get a nice second crop after the inevitable late August frost, too. Our perennial question - how do you store these things? We froze a few bags, and they don't look good. We're learning. Previous seasons Snow peas have always been a part of the garden up here in Galena. They've always been superproductive, too. We experimented with a variety called Oregon Giant for several years, which produced superb and (as the name implies) gigantic pods. |
The Oregon Giant peas are in the bottom photo. They had lots of little tendrils on the plants. August 2005. |
