We've tried these for the past two years and gotten mediocre production each year. It's as if there is just not enough season to get the real size of the root. On the other hand, this might just be an artifact of my extremely shoddy thinning techniques. We'll see what happens in 2011.

Summer 2011

We grew a row of the Helmor variety from Johnny's Seeds, and we almost got some rutabagas, too. They were within two weeks of looking good. Next year, we'll have some under the high tunnel and that should give us enough warmth and season to produce rutabagas.
