This is a long-season vegetable, but we've tried it now for two years with moderate success.

Summer 2011

We tried the Cobham Improved Marrow up in the raised beds, and the leaves were sadly overwhelmed by the neighbors. That in combination with a cool and rainy late summer made this year a flop. Next year they're going under the high tunnel, where hopefully the much longer season and heat will do wonders.

Summer 2010

We tried to grow another row of the Cobham Improved Marrow variety this year. My suspicion is that the crop didn't do well because of the lack of thinning, but I can't be sure. In any case, we had a moderately poor harvest, with many pencil-thin roots collected at the end of the season.

Summer 2009

This was our first year growing parsnips. The plants grew with lots of vigor, producing lots of large green leaves. Some of them came up with carrot-sized tubers at the end of the season, leading us to believe that this could be a crop that works, despite the fact that the seed packet said it would take 120 days. You never really know up in these parts.
