This is one of the stellar finds among all the experiments with mustard greens. The mizuna grows quickly into a volleyball-sized puffball of tasty green leaves and remains that way for more than a month. The invitable bolting process proceeds slowly throughout the month of August, meaning that it can be used for quite a while. A beautiful little variety that we grow every year.

Summer 2011

We tried two varieties - Early Mizuna from Kitazawa Seeds and Purple Mizuna from Johnny's Seeds. Both grew beautifully, and they generally survived the moose slaughter of 2011. The plants themselves have very delicate leaves, though, so moving them around is problematic. I'll figure out a way to store these, though.
