We tried Jerusalem artichokes back in 2005 during our first full summer here at the new house. The plant grew wonderfully, finishing the season with sunflower-like flowers. I had seen these growing feral in the median in the Glenn Highway just north of Eagle River, so I wanted to see what would happen up here.

They died over the winter, so I gave up on them.

Seeing this pictures, however, makes me wonder if I shouldn't try them again. Maybe.

Summer 2011

I purchased some of these from Burgess Seeds, and they grew moderately well - not enough to get flowers, though. However, the growth was going along pretty well. I don't remember if I actually got them out of the ground, either. If not, I guess I'll find out if they survived this stretch of -48 degrees. In either case, it was a good expenditure of $2.99.
