We finally found an Oriental radish which wouldn't bolt with the Omny Hybrid daikon radish from Kitazawa Seeds. These store really well, too.

During the 2011 season, we intend on returning to the old experimental process, with much better recordkeeping this time around.

Summer 2011

We tried a bunch of different diakon radishes this year. Here's what worked and what didn't work:

Omny Hybrid - Again the winner by a long shot. In fact, we have five trays of these still remaining in the greenhouse. I grew some enormous radishes this year - many of them more than 18 inches long. Sandy grew the same variety at her house and grew one that was almost 30 inches long. A wonderful producer - in fact, one of the veggies of which we grew too much.

Korean bell-shaped radish - I got a few nice onces from this, too, but not many. Marginal stuff.

Minowase - A few medium-sized radishes, but most of them were tops and stringy roots.

Oharu - A few moderate-sized rounded radishes, but most of these didn't grow very well, either.

    Il Shim - Complete failure.

Looking forward to next year!
