I've tried these in a number of ways and had some successes and failures.
First, the failures. My cucumbers inside the greenhouse swarmed with aphids and eventually faded away. I was stingy with
water and fertilizer one year.
The best place in my garden for the cucumbers is next to the corn - a protected environment that's open to the sun and air.
I've gotten some good production growing them in 5-gallon buckets and using a trellis.
