Summer 2011

Well, we finally had a success! It was hidden among the greens until one day in late July I was cleaning out the bed and there it was - a nicely formed Chinese cabbage. According to my notes, it is the Tall Michihili variety from someone called Greenwich seeds. It came out well enough - smaller than the seed catalogues advertise, but good for our standards. Maybe the time has come to reconsider this fine veggie.

Previous seasons

We've tried this vegetable several times, with several different varieties. Every year we would get the same results - the plant would grow well for a few weeks, then immediately go to seed without the intervening cabbage-like structure. Eventually, I gave up. Maybe I'll try it again someday.
