Cauliflower does all right around these parts, although nothing like the robustness I've seen in my Lower 48 gardens. Most of the heads are about six to eight inches across, with some varieties just not coming up to par.

Summer 2011

Space, the final frontier. When I got to the point of planting out, I realized that I had not planted any cauliflower at all, and things being what they are, I couldn't just drive to the Fred Meyer and pick some up. So nothing to report this year!

Summer 2010

The most amazing variety this year was Amazing. The heads were large and a brilliant snow white, simply the most beautiful cauliflower we've ever had in our garden up here. The Snow Crown also grew well this year, too. The Cheddar heads were small, though. The Violet Queens, which had done moderately well in other years, came up with a tiny little broccoli-style heads. I would have called them a failure in our list but they've done all right in other seasons.

It's been suggested to me to tie back the leaves to keep the heads intact. Maybe we'll try it next year.

Previous seasons

We've grown this crop in other years and had the same kind of moderate success we saw this year.
