  Tartarian honeysuckle (Lonicera tartarica)

I don't know when and how I decided to try and grow these. The first two years I made bad mistakes; first, by simply putting the sticks from Burgess Seed Co. immediately into the ground, and then, when I figured out to put them in pots, I forgot to keep them adequately watered. I finally got the trick, though, and I have one three-year-old group of shrubs which are eight feet high.

The trick here is to plant a half-dozen or so together and let them grow into a thick hedge; the branches fill out nicely in the spring and have a lot of berries in the fall. It doesn't seem to be potentially invasive, either - I've never seen another seedling from these plants. A friend of mine told me that this shrub is a serious invasive problem in Michigan.
