  Borage (Borago officinalis)

One of my favorite Alaska flowers of all time.

For starters, I no longer have to plant borage in my garden. The seeds fall from the flowers and can travel a long distance in the garden - without become invasive outside the garden. I've never seen volunteer seedlings in the gravel or fields around the gardens, though. The seeds will establish themselves in garden soil easily, though.

Second, the plants grow quickly without much care. In fact, they can overwhelm nearby plants. I've pulled 4-foot plants out of the garden after only a month or so of growth. I usually let a few grow and pull the rest.

The flowers are beautiful, too - small dark blue flowers with star-shaped petals. Very nice, subtle.

Lastly, this flower really brings in the pollinators. There's always a bunch of hoverflies and bumblebees around them.

A great plant for the garden. I understand it can be made into tea, too, although I've never done it.
