  Bleeding hearts (Dicentra spectabilis)

These are fabulous perennials around here. I had a patch from two-year plants that came up with great vigor and production, with flowers as soon as the second week in June. I got the roots from Burgess Seed Co., which apparently happily thrives at the chaff end of the gardening world with cheesy grade-C plants costing very little. It was a great buy, and like I've written before about experimentation, this is a perennial which supposedly isn't going to do well up here. I now have a whole patch filled with them in the shade garden.
