Here's another example of poppy hybridization. This was a flower from the native poppy (Papaver lapponicum), and it as a double set of petals and a much brushier interior. I should have collected the seeds. Too bad I only thought of it as I was typing this. The bright orange is interesting, too. I noticed that it sure got a lot of pollinators (including the two in the photo). I've seen other hybrids pop up - the next time, I'll collect the seed and keep a more serious record. |
